Athletic Recruiting

ABC Athletic Recruiting is the world’s leading networking organization for linking high school athletes with college athletic recruiters and coaches.

It is never too early for student athletes to begin the process of identifying and applying for scholarships. While your team coach might be ready at a moment’s notice for help on the field, you’ll need to put forth strong effort off the field as well when it comes to earning a scholarship.

ABC Athletic Recruiting acts as a third party to guide students in the right direction so that their talents and abilities will be noticed by college recruits. Student athletes who are serious about an academic scholarship are advised to pursue a performance evaluation from ABC Athletic Recruiting, or other third party organizations. There are two benefits to this: firstly, an evaluation from a trusted institution will be taken seriously by college officials, especially because of the vast number of applications received annually; secondly, since ABC Athletic Recruiting maintains a neutral stance, they can give objective critiques about your skills and talents. Having this information will help you establish appropriate goals and narrow down the right scholarships - those appropriate to your skill level.

It is important for students to contact as many colleges as possible in order to increase their odds of landing a scholarship. ABC Athletic Recruiting suggests contacting between 50 and 100 programs. Over 1,800 colleges and universities have sports programs, so the pool from which to fish from is very large. It is also essential to remember the importance of academics in athletic recruitment - it is not enough just to be a great player, you must also be a great student.

Two organizations offer scholarships, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), both of which have different requirements.

NCAA Division I uses a sliding scale for ACT and SAT scores that varies depending on a student’s GPA, and a minimum 2.0 GPA in core classes is required. Division II has the same GPA requirement, but demands that students have a minimum summary score of 68 on the ACT and 820 on the SAT. Division III requirements are the same as the requirements for all prospective students.

NAIA requires two out of three of the following:

  • A minimum ACT score of 18 or SAT score of 860

  • A minimum overall high school GPA of 2.0

  • Being in the top half of your graduating high school class
